How do you market a marketing person?


As marketing professionals we take pride in our ability to understand our audience, create meaningful value propositions and communicate effectively - to the right audience at the right time with the right message.


So why don't we do a better job at selling ourselves?


Because it's really really hard. And, if a good marketing pitch is not required by hiring managers - we can all get along with not really applying our professional expertise to the "brand of Me."


I have had countless people who signed up to be "mentored" by me, none of which embraced my vision for what they could do to stand out in a job search.


I began my plan to relocate and change jobs - I did what I was advising others to do, and created a website, video and pitch book all to sell the brand of Me.


Before you can expect sales success - you have to know what you're selling, know what it can do, and know it's limitations. Create your own brand platform and materials and you'll almost guarantee an interview to better sell the brand of You.


To do this takes time and dedication - but what worthwhile doesn't?


Doing this was hard, took the better part of off hours for about a year and you know what? It worked. It worked 100% of the time - for me, and for others who created their own versions based on my approach. Delivery of this "pitch kit" always resulted in an interview.


I have read that having a blog will generate more hits for anyone who Google's your name. So being ever in the mode of marketing the brand of Me, I'm giving this a go.
